The format of Microsoft Word documents is universal, but the Adobe Acrobat PDF file format is even more popular. If you need to convert a PDF file to Word, here some ideas how to do it.
The problem with PDF files is that, unless you own Adobe Acrobat Pro, the tool used to make and edit PDF files, it can appear difficult to get a PDF file into Microsoft Word format so that you can edit it and share it with others in an easily editable format.
It is not that difficult, and you should be able to do it for free. There are free desktop applications that will get the job done for you, which is probably the way to go if you need to do a lot of conversions. Otherwise, if you just need one or even an occasional conversion from PDF to Word, you are probably better off with one of the Web sites that specializes in these conversions.
If you convert regularly, one of the things that you probably want to look for is a desktop tool that will do conversions in batches. One of this tools is Smartsoft’s Free PDF to Word converter. Please note that it is a Windows-only solution, and that the free download is a stripped-down version of their paid programs. Regardless, it does a good job of doing basic conversions of the type you want: PDF to MS Word. Downloading and installing this program is exactly like the download and installation process for any other Windows program.
The tool works on all recent Windows versions and will convert PDF files into either Word 2003 or Word 2007 format, either of which can be read by any Word version after the one that you export to. All in all, it is a very useful conversion program. Use is straightforward.
Just select the files you want to convert, select the desired output format, select a folder in which to put the converted documents, and click on the “Convert” command button. Use Your version of word or OpenOffice Writer to open the converted files and edit the content.
Talking about OpenOffice, check out the AddOns at the developers web site… there is a PDF Addon which makes you able just to drag and drop a PDF file on the OpenOffice symbol on the desktop and after a few minutes (depends on the complexity of the PDF document) it will open in OpenOffice Draw where you can edit the PDF file as you want. This PDF import tool is working nearly perfect. When you are finish with your work, just safe the document with a mouse click back in to a PDF document.
For an online service for just the occasional conversion, the place to go is PDFtoWord.com. The site only allows you to convert one file at a time, but you can convert multiple files serially. The site is easy to use. Click on “Choose File” and select a PDF file from your local file system. Then select which kind of file that you want to export, a .doc file or an .rtf file. Then type in your email address so that the converted file can be sent to you and click on the “Convert” button. The converted file will be emailed to you. Another great file conversion site is Zamzar.com, which converts a huge number of file types, including audio and video, to other file types, and of course does PDF to Word conversions.

Do you have a problem with a stable ADSL connection with TOT, TT&T, 3BB or whatever Internet Service Provider in Phuket / Thailand?
Here is what you should check first:
Do you have a proper phone line from outside your house in to the house, than here is usually the bottle neck of the signal?!
Usually you have a signal display in the interface of your ADSL modem which shows you the SNR Margin and the Line Attenuation / Loop Att..
Here is the information what the SNR Margin and the Line Attenuation / Loop Att. should be to work fine.
If the signal is below (for SNR Margine) or above (for the Line Attenuation) you should definitely change first the phone line wiring in to your house and when this is done and there is still a problem, your ISP needs to check the phone line coming to your house!
SNR is Signal to Noise Ratio (aka Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Margin)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio.
6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level.
The higher the number the better for this measurement.
6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding
Loop Att. is Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem.
Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues
How much power modem (upstream) or DSLAM (downstream) is using. Maximum recommended is about 15dB.
The lower the power the better for this measurement.

You want to do a clean system install of Mac OS X on your shiny new Mac?
Or perhaps you just need a larger drive to hold all the movies you’re been downloading?
No matter what the reason, before you can use a blank hard drive, you’ll need to format it first.
Luckily, formatting a drive is easy, but you do need to make some decisions ahead of time based on how you plan to use the drive. For example will your drive be used only in a Mac? Or if your drive is going to be used for storage, will you need to connect from Windows? Mac? Both?
Be aware that formatting your drive will erase **ALL** your existing data. Make sure you’ve backed up any existing files on the drive before you format!
- BACK UP
Remember, formatting a drive erases all the data on your Mac, so make sure you back up all your files before you begin!
- USING THE DISK UTILIY IN MAC OS X
To format an external or an extra internal hard drive on your Mac, just attach (or install) the drive and open the application “Disk Utility”.
It’s in your Applications > Utilities folder. Select your new hard drive in the menu on the left, then choose the Erase tab in the main window.
Now select a drive format. If you’re using the hard drive exclusively with Mac OS X, we recommend Mac OS Extended (Journaled). If you’ll be accessing the drive from Windows as well, select FAT32.
Once you’ve selected a format, click the erase button and wait a few minutes for the drive to finish formatting.
- USING THE INSTALLATION DVD OF MAC OS X
If you’d like to format the system hard drive inside your Mac, the procedure is the same, but you’ll need to boot your Mac from an OS X install DVD or another Mac.
If you’re using the install DVD, before you start the install process head to the menu bar and select the Disk Utility application. Once Disk Utility opens the process is the same as explained above, but be sure to choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), which is the recommended drive format for OS X.
As we reported already about the alternative OpenDNS solution, here a brand new service from Google. Google Public DNS Service.
Those of you experiencing DNS issues or have trouble using OpenDNS, give these a try:
Primary DNS: 184.108.40.206
Secondary DNS: 220.127.116.11
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web’s infrastructure, serving as the Internet’s “phone book”. Every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they complete loading. As a result, the average Internet user performs hundreds of DNS lookups each day, that collectively can slow down his or her browsing experience.
Confused Which Free Public DNS To Use, Here Is How To Benchmark The Fastest DNS Server From Your Location
If you are looking for a professional grade hardcore DNS speed benchmarking tool, multi-platform, open-source utility namebench would be the answer, capable of utilizing your web browser history, tcpdump output, or standardized datasets to benchmark DNS server speeds namebench provide well laid-out, easy to understand individualized recommendation.
However, if you are looking for something fast and noob-friendly free windows-only utility DNS Tester gets the job done but you will need to manually evaluate and compare the results.
Another free alternative would be DNSBench for fast, easy and comprehensive DNS Benchmarking on windows.

TCP/IP stack Winsock settings in Windows Vista may get corrupted, causing errors and problems with Internet connectivity. Corrupt Winsock or Windows sockets configuration can be due to a lot of reasons such as installation of a networking software, or due to virus, trojan or malware infection, or sometime even due to disinfection of spyware by security software.
When Winsock corrupts, the networking errors that you may face include unable to surf the Internet with “Page cannot be displayed” error message in Internet Explorer or AOL even though the DSL/ADSL/cable Internet connection is connected. Sometimes, Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is terminated as well.
To repair and reset the Windows Vista
- Click on Start button.
- Type cmd in the Start Search text box.
- Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator.
Allow elevation request.
- Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
- Restart the computer.
What netsh winsock reset command does are it resets Winsock Catalog to a clean state or default configuration. It removes all Winsock LSP (Layered Service Providers) previously installed, including the potential malfunctioned LSP that causes loss of network packets transmission failure. So all previously-installed LSPs must be reinstalled. This command does not affect Winsock Name Space Provider entries.
Note: To check which LSPs installed on your Vista system, use netsh winsock show catalog command.
It’s also possible to reset TCP/IP Internet Protocol stack .
